i want to say taffy. but taffy in a cardboard box seems odd. my other guess is some sort of packing material.

Hmmmm - I like the 'bubblegum' idea. The chute and the metal scoop seem to have a slightly granular/sugary residue on them, so I'm going to go with a food-related item. I'm not sure why it'd be sorted out into cardboard boxes, but could it be the sugary/marshmallow-y beginnings of 'PEEPS' ???
I detect a granular, sugary-looking residue on the chute and scooper - could it be the beginnings of marshmallow peeps? But then, why the cardboard boxes? Perhaps DIY peep kits?
