Happy Friday, Bitches!

I know, I know! It's Kathy Griffin overload, but she's f#ckin' funny as hell. In case you don't watch THE TONIGHT SHOW (because it's more offensive than funny) here's a clip of La Griffin from the other night. Listen closely at the very beginning, does Jay say, "...Kathy Griffith"? I think he does.

I'm working on my "10ish Most Fascinating People of 2008 List." Kathy's on it. Barbara Walters is NOT. Stay tuned, potatoes.

Why Do The Good Die So Young?

It is with great sadness that I must report that Dody Goodman has died. Dody was a regular on the Jack Parr TONIGHT SHOW back in the day. She was a broadway singer and dancer who staged a comeback in 1976 as Louise Lasser's mother on the TV soap opera parody MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN. After MH, MH, Dody Goodman's career gained momentum with regular appearances on TV's Diff'rent Strokes and as the unforgettable office secretary in GREASE opposite Eve Arden and a cast of thousands. She was the kind of over-the-top goofball comedienne who could steal a scene just be being in it. I love that her album is called "Dody Goodman Sings?" Ms. Goodman was only 93.

Strike Out

I occasionally watch the TONIGHT SHOW with Jay Leno, and I was interested to see what the show would be like without writers. Quite frankly, I don't miss the writers. I support their quest for more money, but I think the strike is in danger of collapsing if too many shows come back and especially if the shows are good. The TONIGHT SHOW is lighter and funnier than with writers at least so far. There's a slight sense of danger. The WORST thing in TV (especially these days) is dead air. But now, when Jay or Conan runs out of material, they just stop and wait for something to happen, and it usually does. Ellen's daytime show ran for WEEKS without her writers, and it too not only survived but also seemed to gain a "right-now" quality that I find appealing. It's not an easy thing to fill 39-40 minutes of "live" show day after day, but I think the challenge facing writerless hosts has made them step up their game.
