Happy Mother's Day! from SNL

As only Andy Samberg and Justim Timberlake could wish it, Happy Mother's Day.

Barbie Wiig

The highlight of a mostly hilarious SNL this week was Kristin Wiig as Barbie on Weekend Update. Wiig continues to steal every sketch she's in. Her "dancing lady" on the HIGH I.Q. sketch was silly, but she was 100% committed to it. Brilliant! AND, I love that NBC is putting the SNL musical performances on the web. If you missed the show - because you have a life or don't have a DVR - here are my selected highlights.

SNL: First Cough

This Saturday's episode of SNL was inexplicably lame. Though, to be honest, I can't point at any one thing. I mean, obviously, I hate Jonas Brothers more than anyone else in music ever. They are just SO bad. In a show with Alec Baldwin, Cameron Diaz, and Dan Akroyd I'm not sure how the show just laid there gasping for breath. I love the Vincent Price Show spoofs. Tonight, Liberace was the best, but Alec Baldwin did a scarily subtle and brilliant Dick Burton. The show was occasionally clever. I also still do not care for Weekend Update with Seth Meyers. Looooorne, Wiig me!!

SNL: Put a Wigg on THAT!

Bradly Cooper? Who? Well, at least he's kinda cute. He's not why we're watching SNL tonight. Kristin Wiig did another razor sharp Kathy Lee Gifford (host of the 4th hour of the TODAY show on NBC) sketch which was deliciously uncomfortable to watch. Her physicality with the "character" is deeply disturbing. I don't get those "singing sketches" where they say really weird stuff in between singing an unusual song. What's up with that? Tonight's SNL kinda had a "collection of YouTube clips" feeling. Is that a coincidence? Is that a good thing? TV On The Radio made me feel like I'd fallen into a time warp, and not in a good way. My favorite punchline from UPDATE: "Because nothing helps you fit in like a monkey full of cocaine." Thank you, Seth Meyers, for sticking up for Michael Phelps. Why aren't more people? And, OH THANK YOU JEEBUS for Kristin Wiig as Bjork! Her song KILLED me! I can't wait 'til her song is online so I can watch it over and over. And, can someone tell me why Drew Barrymore was at the end of the show and why Bradley Cooper didn't mention her even though she was standing RIGHT next to him. In fact, he aaaalmost elbowed her in the face at one point, but he didn't mention her. Was she in a sketch? Did I fall asleep?

REALLY!?!

Kathie Lee at the Hoedown!

Bjork for President of Iceland!

SNL Airs Sketchmericials

SNL was (finally) back this week to plug Steve Martin's new PINK PANTHER 2: STEVE MARTIN'S PAYCHECK. How many times is he going to host the show?! What the hell is Justin Timberlake doing that's so frickin' important that he can't host SNL?! Justin! Justin! Justin! My favorite new SNL faux commercial was for edible Pampers. Nasty! Then shortly after the faux commerical, I found it interesting/scary that SNL and/or NBC/UNIVERSAL/GE tossed in commercials disguised as MacGruber sketches guest starring actual MacGyver, Richard Dean Anderson. The super-awesome Kristin Wiig co-starred. Were they sketches or commercials or sketchmercials? The MacGruber sketchmercials were for my new least-favorite mega-corp, Pepsi. You may know Pepsi as the company who took the Obama logo for their own corportate logo after Obama's election win. If McCain had won (god forbid!) would we be drinking Pepsi out of cans with liver spots? Then after faux commercials and commercials disguised as sketches, SNL had the nerve to make a joke at the end of Weekend Update about CBS creating a show called "CSI: SHAM-WOW." More like NBC: Sham Now! Then later Steve Martin played banjo to shamelessly plug his new CD of apparently weird banjo songs. It was tough to tell if the song they performed was a children's song or what. Anyway, on with the show... Spoiler alert: there was a new insane Laser Cats short which was like the homemade version of STAR WARS. Miss Amy LOVES Laser Cats. It's growing on me. Also, Lorne Michaels' office looks like a cross between Tina Fey's office and Alec Baldwin's office on 30 ROCK which I find odd. Almost as odd as the unexplained backstage llama. I only like Jason Mraz because he's kinda cute in a so-ugly-he's-cute kinda way. He's also very humorous, which is sexy if used properly. He didn't look particularly sexy on SNL, but he sounded better than most people do. The only people who sound good playing live on SNL are U2, Christina Aguilera, and -- apparently -- Mr. Mraz. The highlight of Weekend Update was Jason Sudeikis' brilliant post-impeachment Blagojevich ape. Loved it! Some new chick did a sick and hilarious spot-on impression of Angela Jolie. And THANK YOU JESUS! Despite previous uproar and outrage, Fred Armisen came back as New York Governor Patterson, which is the funniest thing EVER. It's SO f'ing sick and WRONG - I LOVE it! He was relentless too. It made the previous Patterson sketches look tame by comparison. Otherwise, Update has gone waaaay down hill since Amy and Tina left. Seth just isn't enough for me. I'd LOVE to see Kristin Wiig do a different co-anchor each week (Katie Couric, Elizabitch Hasselbeck, Martha Stewart, etc.) C'mon, Lorne! Wiig me! NOW!Here's PART 3 of the MacGruber Pepsi Sketchmercials. Each spot got increasingly more "pepsi-fied."

BLAGO! (Sudekis is brilliant!)

And, now... the best. Ladies and Gentlepotatoes, I give you New York State Governor Patterson.

Clips of other hilarity (Edible Pampers and Angelina Jolie, just to name a few) are online at HULU.com and NBC.com.

SNL: Rosario Live

We'll have clips and a complete SNL wrap-up on Sunday afternoon. Don't miss it! (The wrap-up, not the show. The show probably won't be very good.) I stand corrected the show was pretty funny. I didn't post the Aladdin clip here because it's pretty long, but ALADDIN is one of my favorite movies, and the spoof was BRILLIANT! Check it out on NBC.com and/or HULU.com Here are a few of the highlights. Anne Coulter explains that torture is "Christiany."

EVERYTHING MUST GO! (Really!)

More to come soon. OR, visit NBC.com or HULU.com!

SNL 2009: Neil Patrick Harris

Tonight, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE returned live with host and gay cutie-pie Neil Patrick Harris. Sadly, the show is without new mom Amy Poehler. Thank god (who I don't believe in) that Kristin Wiig is still kicking ass on the show! She did a spot-on Kathie Lee Gifford on the interminable 5th hour of the TODAY show. She also had a triumphant return as terminally annoying know-it-all Penelope with a surprise ending. And the SNL faux game show with the BEST theme song ever, "Two First Names" featured -among others - Wiig as Jamie Lee Curtis (having a digestive emergency). Sadly, I can't find a clip of "Two First Names." :-(
This clip is called "Fran & Freba"

Penelope's two best friends are a tomato and Liza Minnelli.

Wiig does a FRIGHTENINGLY flawless Kathie Lee Gifford as the 4th hours of the TODAY show drones on and on and on...

The rest of last night's clips from SNL are on NBC clips page or on Hulu.

SNL: No Mo Po

I was deeply saddened to learn that Saturday night's SNL was Amy Pohler's last. She said a touching and still comedic good-bye at the end of Weekend Update. Who will replace her? Please, dear Lord (who I don't believe in) let it be Kristin Wiig! Is there a Facebook petition for this purpose yet? Wiig was once again in a majority of the show's sketches: 5 out of 7! (Yay!) In other SNL news, Kanye West sounded awful on the show, but his presentation was outstanding! He incorporated two enormous LCD screens (or sumthin) and video and animation to a level never before seen on SNL. Pretty much everyone sounds crappy on SNL. It's either nerves, being rushed, or just crappy sound. OMG, the dead-cat Christmas letter sketch was upsetting and hilarious! Also, unfunny Fred Armisen was unusually brilliant as NY Governor Paterson on Weekend Update. I hate watching a show knowing that there won't be a new episode for weeks and weeks. They deserve a break, but what about MY needs?! British actor Stephen Fry Twittered about being backstage. He has a great Twitter feed. He leads a fabulous life and has a brilliant way of boiling it down to a few lines. Speaking of brilliant! Bronx Beat was back and was possibly the best episode yet. Clips!

Sniff sniff.

'Twas The Night Before Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich

In the spirit of the holiday season, please enjoy this touching reading of "The Night before Christmas" by children's favorite John Malkovich. From this past Saturday's SNL. Of course, the one clip NBC didn't put online was the hilarious skit with Kristin Wiig as the office sexpot with a few odd quirks. No one does odd quirks better than Ms. Wiig. If you find the clip, send it to me! Until then, enjoy the holiday cheer.

Don't Bother Watching SNL Next Week

Cutie patootie, Justin Timberlake dropped by SNL last night to explain why he won't be hosting the show next week. Actually he explained that he wouldn't be hosting, not why. It was the funniest part of last night's show, and probably funnier than all of next week's show. Next week's show also better contain at least 67% more Kristin Wiig.

Wiig as Hasselcoulter

SNL was out of control hilarious this week. They FINALLY did a spoof of THE VIEW. Kenan Thompson's Whoopi Goldberg was respectful yet crazy. His grandma look is priceless! He is a genius. It's alarming that Fred Armisen does a better imitation of Joy Behar than he does of Obama. And, only Kristin Wiig could capture Hasselcoulter's desperation at trying to get actual smart people to listen to her unverified Internet facts and her daily phone call tips from Sean Hannity. Girlchild, please! Ben Affleck was in like every sketch, and even for Ben Affleck he was pretty good. Does he have a movie coming out? Does he still have a career?

The other kinda funny sketch on the show was Ben Affleck as Keith Olbermann. It was way too long, but they got a couple of Grade A zingers in at Mr. Pompous Oblemann. Here's an excerpted preview. I think you can click on the clip to see the full-length clip and all the clips from last night's show on HULU. (Yay, HULU!)

And, then there was John McCain who appeared on the show twice. I swear to g-d it almost seems as if he wants to lose this election. I refer you to HULU.com or NBC.com from the lengthy clips, but he did NOT do himself ANY favors by being on SNL last night. He even got booed at one point.

In Case You Haven't Seen This EVERYWHERE Else

Tina Fey once again showed this past Saturday why she is the greatest living comediene on TV today. Sarah Palin showed that she is a good sport, which should come in handy on Nov 5th when she's crying her eyes out and Hillary Clinton is named as Obama's choice for Secretary of State. Anyway, enjoy...

And, who doesn't love McCain's favorite supporter...

Palin and Clinton Address the Nation Together

Not to oversell last night's opening on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, but only Tina Fey and Amy Pohler could have pulled off such a silly and serious sketch about the STARK differences between Palin and Clinton. And, Pohler captured Hillary's justified outrage at the recent turn of events. Tina Fey gets mad props from me for pushing her Palin aping past the obvious doppleganger similarities. I was secretly hoping and chanting that Fey would appear as Palin, and I my guarded optimism was paid off last night. Enjoy the clip.

Also interesting to note is the insane spike in people Googling the word "flurge." It is the #23 MOST SEARCHED term as of Sunday at noon Pacific time (with a bullet!) Various versions of "tina fey as sarah palin snl" etc are ranked 3rd through 6th.

Jar Glove featuring Kristin Wiig

My second favorite sketch on what was an overall disappointing SNL was Kristin Wiig's hilarious Jar Glove commercial.

SNL Season Finale: Where Do I Begin?!

Clearly, the writers were saving all the good jokes for the season finale. Stay tuned for my dissection and/or deconstruction of SNL's off-the-hook season finale.

It's A Match

I forgot to blog about this SNL sketch because SO MANY of the sketches were so funny this past Saturday. MATCH GAME is my favorite show on TV ever in the history of TV. The SNL sketch, "It's A Match" truly captured the off-kilter hilarity of MATCH GAME.

Busier than Ryan Seacrest! Ok, no one is that busy.

Monday. Monday can suck it. I've got a bunch of stuff to do today, so I won't get much of a chance to blog. Until then, enjoy the following salad of clips.

CLIP ONE: "Such As"

CLIP TWO: One of my favorite fake SNL commercials from this season.

CLIP THREE: An oldie but goodie to get your day started off right. Really THINK about what you are wearing. Is it truly the perfect costume for today?
